And since I'm listening to Ender's Game, I thought this was appropriately, though a little out of bounds for the Christmas Spirit!

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Tonsils
Lydia has a post-decannulation appointment with ENT the week before Christmas. It was good-ish. Her hearing tests are good and typical for a two year old that can't sit still and listen, especially in a sound booth. Her left tube is clogged and we are using drops for two weeks to see if we can unclog it. One is always clogged it seems. If it doesn't unclog we have to replace the tube...again. Lydia has an ear tube replaced with every other surgery we do...palate repair, decannulation, tonsillectomy.
Yep, you heard it. Tonsillectomy.
She may look like her dad but she gets her big tonsils from her momma.
So proud.
Lydia's tonsils should be at a 1 or 2, they are at a 3, 4 to 5 is obstruction of the airway. We will go in for another sleep study, which should be better without the trach, but worse with a 2.5 year old, I'm sure. Then the docs will evaluate her sleep and airway to decide if it's the right path to take. Her breathing is pretty darn noisy when she's sleeping, another sign this will probably happen. In the last year we've messed with her trachea, she still has a stridor due to laryngomalacia, and we lengthened her palate with the submucous soft cleft palate repair. All these things reduce the size of her airway.
Tonsils on top of all that is no bueno.
Better to do it now than when she's 25 like her mom did.
